Summer Classic, Spa Francorchamps, Belgium

50 minute qualifying, 1 hour race

The startline at Spa.

We weren't able to field the full contingent for this weekend as Matt and Mark didn't have enough signatures to upgrade to the National 'A' race licence needed to compete abroad, this combined with unavoidable work commitments meant that it was Mike in the C who would be keeping the Scruffy end up in Europe! Ably assisted by Sue and Rob.

Robs fan club made the trip to Belgium!

Friday morning was free practice followed by qualifying after lunch and it was clear from the outset that things were not going perfectly, Mike reporting a misfire and loss of power. Rob tried to get to the bottom of the problem but couldn't trace the fault.

The race on Saturday was an hour duration and despite Rob having gone through the ignition system with a fine toothed comb he was still nervous that the problem hadn't been fixed.

Unfortunately his instincts were right and Mike retired after just a few laps with no spark.

The weekend still had some surprises in store when the competitors were told they had to vacate the circuit camp site on Sunday evening despite having been told that they would be able to stay until Monday! As luck would have it another camp site was found on the return route and the welcome from the owners was amazing, possibly due to the fact that we (along with several of our fellow competitors) arrived towing gorgeous classic race cars!

Despite the break down it was a fantastic weekend and we are looking forward to returning next season!
